HOW TO SPOT A DEVIL

Twelve characteristics of a demon or demon possessed person

In this chapter I list some characteristics that indicate to me whether or not the person or entity I may dealing with is a devil, demon, imp, or someone who is controlled by such. Here are some of the traits I believe are characteristic of those types. This by no means is a complete list.

1) DELUSIONAL

False belief: a persistent false belief held in the face of strong contradictory evidence, especially as a symptom of a psychiatric condition. Encarta ® World English Dictionary © & (P) 1998-2005 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

I Am Amazed at some of the twisted and warped beliefs that so many people hold dear too, despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary. When someone stubbornly holds on to a false belief he or she is probably dealing with a demonic spirit. Anyone who is trying to serve God will be self examining and self –effacing. If that person has a hard time with being wrong look out!

2) SUBTLE

1. slight: slight and not obvious

2. pleasantly understated: pleasantly delicate and understated

3. able to make refined judgments: intelligent, experienced, or sensitive enough to make refined judgments and distinctions

4. ingenious: cleverly indirect and ingenious

Devils are diabolically smooth and enrapturing, almost by nature. They can soothe you with their smooth vernacular, gain your trust and use that trust too ultimately bring about your own downfall. This was done to Eve in the Garden. God describes the serpent as subtle.

Genesis 3:1 states:

NOW THE SERPENT WAS MORE SUBTIL THAN ANY BEAST OF THE FIELD WHICH THE LORD GOD HAD MADE.

3) ACCUSER

REV 12:10 AND I HEARD A LOUD VOICE SAYING IN HEAVEN, NOW IS COME SALVATION, AND STRENGTH, AND THE KINGDOM OF OUR GOD, AND THE POWER OF HIS CHRIST: FOR THE ACCUSER OF OUR BRETHREN IS CAST DOWN, WHICH ACCUSED THEM BEFORE OUR GOD DAY AND NIGHT

1. confront and blame: to confront somebody with a charge of having done something illegal, wrong, or undesirable

2. charge: to charge somebody formally with having committed a crime

We all have been around people whose primary job is to attack others and bring to light other people’s shortcomings and then use those accusations in order to generate guilt or remorse in their target in order to gain power over them. I personally can’t stand to be around people like that. Everyone will have some flaw. The accuser is so full of self-hate that he has to spread his spiritual venom on anyone he perceives as more righteous then himself. Habakkuk 1:13 states:

HAB 1:13 [THOU ART] OF PURER EYES THAN TO BEHOLD EVIL, AND CANST NOT LOOK ON INIQUITY: WHEREFORE LOOKEST THOU UPON THEM THAT DEAL TREACHEROUSLY, [AND] HOLDEST THY TONGUE WHEN THE WICKED DEVOURETH [THE MAN THAT IS] MORE RIGHTEOUS THAN HE?

4) INSTIGATOR

1. get something started: to cause a process to start

2. start trouble: to cause trouble, especially by urging somebody to do something destructive or wrong

This is the busybody, the gossiper, they love to stick their noses into other people’s business, throw in some type of social hand grenade into the situation and then sit back and enjoy the fireworks at the expense of someone else’s well being

5) PROVACATUER

1. act of provoking: the act of provoking somebody or something

2. cause of anger: something that makes somebody angry or indignant

3. criminal law reason for attacking somebody: something that incites somebody to attack somebody else

The provocateur is similar to the instigator except he or she is directly involved in the skirmish because they have a seething inward self hatred that they need to project some form of pain on someone else in order to feel whole. These are usually the bullies of the world.

6) FALSE PENANCE

1. self-punishment for sin: self-punishment or an act of religious devotion performed to show sorrow for having committed a sin

These individuals subconsciously seek out punishment.

They seek to provoke the wrath of men! For they would rather endure man’s wrath than the wrath of the Almighty. God’s impending wrath evokes a fear that is beyond the comprehension of a child of God.

The wicked try to incite the wrath of God’s children in order to justify himself in the eyes of a Holy God and the universe. He seeks man’s vengeance as a substitute for God’s. Paul admonished the church not to give in to those who would tempt them into avenging themselves, he stated in Romans 12:19:

ROM 12:19 DEARLY BELOVED, AVENGE NOT YOURSELVES, BUT [RATHER] GIVE PLACE UNTO WRATH: FOR IT IS WRITTEN, VENGEANCE [IS] MINE; I WILL REPAY, SAITH THE LORD.

The demon possessed or wicked individual has an unconscious fear of God’s anger. He would rather seek out man’s affliction so he could proclaim, “I have received punishment for my sins O Lord”. Spare me your divine wrath for I am hated and despised of men. But the wicked is hated for his wicked ways and not for his being. He is not loathed because he seeks righteousness as Christ was. He is hated because he is a destroyer by nature.

ISA 10:7 HOWBEIT HE MEANETH NOT SO, NEITHER DOTH HIS HEART THINK SO; BUT [IT IS] IN HIS HEART TO DESTROY AND CUT OFF NATIONS NOT A FEW.

This characteristic is inherent in many devils they can’t help it. They were designed to destroy, the same way a shark is created to devour. It is what it is. That is why Christ commands us to love our enemies. Because loving our enemies keeps the divine wrath over the head of the wicked individual or group.

MAT 5:44 BUT I SAY UNTO YOU, LOVE YOUR ENEMIES, BLESS THEM THAT CURSE YOU, DO GOOD TO THEM THAT HATE YOU, AND PRAY FOR THEM WHICH DESPITEFULLY USE YOU, AND PERSECUTE YOU;

MAT 5:45 THAT YE MAY BE THE CHILDREN OF YOUR FATHER WHICH IS IN HEAVEN: FOR HE MAKETH HIS SUN TO RISE ON THE EVIL AND ON THE GOOD, AND SENDETH RAIN ON THE JUST AND ON THE UNJUST.

MAT 5:46 FOR IF YE LOVE THEM WHICH LOVE YOU, WHAT REWARD HAVE YE? DO NOT EVEN THE PUBLICANS THE SAME?

God teaches us to love those who hate us. If we are to be like him. If we want HIS light to shine through us. We have to love the unlovable and leave the punishment to God and universal law. This is extremely difficult for me personally but I know it is necessary for salvation. I pray that God will give me that kind of love, the love that leads to perfection. Because it is that love that converts the soul.

7) SELF-WORSHIP

egomaniac...

Many people are probably accused of having this trait in their personality. However what separates a normal person from the devils is the degree of false delusion he or she possesses regarding ones worth. We have all heard the term delusions of grandeur. Devils, however don’t see themselves as delusional and they are willing to impose their demonic and narcissistic beliefs on others. No matter what the costs.

8) THEY HATE PEACE

ISA 59:8 THE WAY OF PEACE THEY KNOW NOT; AND [THERE IS] NO JUDGMENT IN THEIR GOINGS: THEY HAVE MADE THEM CROOKED PATHS: WHOSOEVER GOETH THEREIN SHALL NOT KNOW PEACE.

Drama queens and kings, loudmouths, whenever someone cannot be comfortable in a peace and quiet environment, If they always need some type of stimulation be it through other people or some form of narcotic that person is more than likely under the control of a demon. If the person constantly has to be in an altered state, he fears quiet, because then he comes face o face with reality and his or her inner demons. Remember the legions of devils did not want to be cast out into nothingness. They requested to be put into the swine.

MAR 5:10 AND HE BESOUGHT HIM MUCH THAT HE WOULD NOT SEND THEM AWAY OUT OF THE COUNTRY.

MAR 5:11 NOW THERE WAS THERE NIGH UNTO THE MOUNTAINS A GREAT HERD OF SWINE FEEDING.

MAR 5:12 AND ALL THE DEVILS BESOUGHT HIM, SAYING, SEND US INTO THE SWINE, THAT WE MAY ENTER INTO THEM.

MAR 5:13 AND FORTHWITH JESUS GAVE THEM LEAVE. AND THE UNCLEAN SPIRITS WENT OUT, AND ENTERED INTO THE SWINE: AND THE HERD RAN VIOLENTLY DOWN A STEEP PLACE INTO THE SEA, (THEY WERE ABOUT TWO THOUSAND;) AND WERE CHOKED IN THE SEA.

Wilderness & far country are synonymous with peace and separation from the world.

9) THEY LOVE STRIFE (DRAMA)

PRO 15:18 A WRATHFUL MAN STIRRETH UP STRIFE: BUT [HE THAT IS] SLOW TO ANGER APPEASETH STRIFE.

PRO 28:25 HE THAT IS OF A PROUD HEART STIRRETH UP STRIFE: BUT HE THAT PUTTETH HIS TRUST IN THE LORD SHALL BE MADE FAT.

PRO 29:22 AN ANGRY MAN STIRRETH UP STRIFE, AND A FURIOUS MAN ABOUNDETH IN TRANSGRESSION.

This is the flip side of peace haters. We all know people who are seemingly natural born Hell-Raisers. You hate to see them coming. They are always mad and pissed off. They seem to be itching for a fight. You could all be playing a nice game of spades and this fool reneges and then wants to flip over the card table. “Damn I hate being around people like that”.

10) FAULT FINDERS

Devils love to point out what you are doing wrong

This trait was so offensive to Christ that it was mentioned often in the gospels.

MAT 7:3 AND WHY BEHOLDEST THOU THE MOTE THAT IS IN THY BROTHER'S EYE, BUT CONSIDEREST NOT THE BEAM THAT IS IN THINE OWN EYE?

MAT 7:4 OR HOW WILT THOU SAY TO THY BROTHER, LET ME PULL OUT THE MOTE OUT OF THINE EYE; AND, BEHOLD, A BEAM [IS] IN THINE OWN EYE?

LUK 6:41 AND WHY BEHOLDEST THOU THE MOTE THAT IS IN THY BROTHER'S EYE, BUT PERCEIVEST NOT THE BEAM THAT IS IN THINE OWN EYE?

LUK 6:42 EITHER HOW CANST THOU SAY TO THY BROTHER, BROTHER, LET ME PULL OUT THE MOTE THAT IS IN THINE EYE, WHEN THOU THYSELF BEHOLDEST NOT THE BEAM THAT IS IN THINE OWN EYE? THOU HYPOCRITE, CAST OUT FIRST THE BEAM OUT OF THINE OWN EYE, AND THEN SHALT THOU SEE CLEARLY TO PULL OUT THE MOTE THAT IS IN THY BROTHER'S EYE.

11.) CRUEL

Nothing says I’m a devil more than needless cruelty to other living creatures that inhabit this planet with us. This includes humans and animals as well. I know there will be people who say that it is cruel to animals to eat meat. But all throughout scripture men were sacrificing and eating animals for sustenance. The cruelty I am referring to is malicious unwarranted torture and destruction of humans and/or animals that pose no threat or provocation.

As I write this particular article there was a recent outcry about a woman who was videotaped taking a cat, petting it one moment and tossing it into an empty trash can the next, living the poor cat to suffer and die of starvation. The poor cat wailed for almost 13 hours before the owner found it and was able to save it. This type of behavior too me is satanic in origin. I’m not necessarily saying the woman is or is not a devil or demon possessed, but she definitely was inclining her heart toward the diabolical at that particular moment. Having power over someone or something does not give one the right to destroy it needlessly. Unfortunately many people do, putting firecrackers up frogs behinds, microwaving hamsters, setting dogs on fire, setting homeless people on fire, all these acts are steps in the training for demon school 101, sometimes devils aren’t just born they are educated in the discipline of wickedness. Proverbs 12:10 states

PRO 12:10 A RIGHTEOUS [MAN] REGARDETH THE LIFE OF HIS BEAST: BUT THE TENDER MERCIES OF THE WICKED [ARE] CRUEL.

12.) CONTROLLING:

To limit or restrict somebody or something, e.g. in expression, occurrence or rate of increase. Encarta Dictionary: English (North America)

Every mature adult has at one time in their lives be involved with a stone cold control freak. Be it a lover , spouse, boss, co-worker, teacher etc.

Control freaks are so full of fear that they must have total dominion over your person, finances, friends, occupations, you name it whatever makes you happy in life the control freak wants to either eliminate it or micro-manage it to the point you cannot enjoy it. The key for the control freak is to not allow the other individual the benefits of a joyous life, because deep down they can’t have it themselves. God allows man free will. He can , if he chooses to turn completely away from God and choose another path in his life. God of course will render punishment for his iniquity in the end but he still allows the person the freedom to walk down the wrong path. Devils don’t do that. They have to force your steps, You can’t go left if the devil needs you to go right. They try to condition you by their actions or inactions in order to gain power over you. They just damn DRAIN YOU!!!.

So there you have it. These are my twelve characteristics of devils and demon possessed individuals. I in no way am saying that this is a complete list, but for the sake of argument I submit this to you the reader. You may have other traits that may come to mind. I hope however this helps you in your daily battles with the enemy.
