WHY BLACK WOMEN LOVE THUGS
WHY BLACK WOMEN LOVE THUGS
I. FOUNDATION SCRIPTURE — James 1:12–15
(This perfectly describes the spiritual cycle behind destructive attraction.)
James 1:12
“Blessed is the man that endureth temptation…
for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life…”
James 1:13–14
“Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God…
But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.”
James 1:15
“Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin:
and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.”
II. APPLYING JAMES TO THE ATTRACTION TO “THUGS”
James reveals a 4-step cycle:
1. Desire (lust)
Not only sexual desire —
emotional cravings, fantasy, trauma-fueled attraction, and identity wounds.
2. Enticement
The thing they desire pulls them in — even if it harms them.
3. Conception of Sin
They begin to walk in rebellion, pride, self-deception, and emotional addiction.
4. Death
Not always physical death —
but relationship death, emotional death, spiritual death, family death.
Now apply this to the cultural dynamic:
III. WHY MANY BLACK AMERICAN WOMEN LOVE “THUGS”
1. Because Trauma Has Rewired Their Desires
(James 1:14 — “drawn away of their own lust”)
For many women, attraction was shaped not by holiness or healthy affection, but by:
abandonment wounds
lack of father protection
chaotic childhood homes
exposure to dysfunctional men
generational curses
emotional instability from early neglect
This creates trauma bonding, causing them to crave the very danger that damaged them.
Scripture Connection
Proverbs 14:12
“There is a way that seemeth right unto a man,
but the end thereof are the ways of death.”
Trauma makes death feel like love.
2. Because Rebellion Feels Like Freedom
Many Black women grew up under:
strict households
legalistic church culture
oppressive school systems
survival environments
So “thugs” represent:
freedom
rebellion
autonomy
danger
excitement
James calls this being enticed — drawn to what fulfills emotional rebellion.
2 Timothy 3:6
“Silly women laden with sins,
led away with divers lusts.”
This is not name-calling —
it’s describing women led by unhealed emotional pain.
3. Because Culture Made Criminality Look Masculine
Hip-hop, movies, and social media repackaged dysfunction as:
dominance
masculinity
protection
power
desirability
Even though it produces:
instability
violence
brokenness
illegitimate children
poverty traps
Isaiah 5:20
“Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil…”
The culture glamorized the curse.
4. Because “Thugs” Provide the Illusion of Protection
In unsafe communities, a “street man” feels like:
physical protection
status
respect
survival
security
But it’s counterfeit.
Psalm 127:1
“Except Yahuah keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.”
A thug cannot protect you from the spiritual death attached to his lifestyle.
5. Because Sin Has a Sexual Charge
Let’s be honest:
Rebellion is sexually stimulating to the flesh nature.
Men and women both experience this.
Romans 7:5
“The motions of sins… did work in our members.”
Sin creates adrenaline.
Adrenaline feels like passion.
Passion feels like love.
But it’s deception.
Proverbs 7:22–23
“He goeth after her straightway,
as an ox goeth to the slaughter…”
This also applies in reverse —
women chasing men who carry the spirit of destruction.
6. Because Judgment Is on the Community
When a people reject covenant, the Most High lifts protection and confusion increases.
Isaiah 3:12
“As for my people… women rule over them,
and they that lead thee cause thee to err…”
This produces:
bad choices
toxic attractions
unstable households
feminine men
masculine women
cycles of destruction
The attraction to thugs is a symptom of national judgment.
7. Because the “Thug” Is a False Messiah Figure
He represents:
power
control
fearlessness
self-made authority
Qualities that women should find in godly men.
But in the absence of righteous masculinity,
they choose the counterfeit version.
Jeremiah 2:13
“They have forsaken Me…
and hewed them out broken cisterns, that can hold no water.”
They choose broken men expecting them to hold covenant.
They cannot.
IV. SCRIPTURES SHOWING WHAT HAPPENS WHEN WOMEN CHOOSE MEN BASED ON FLESH
Judges 16 — Samson & Delilah
Delilah was drawn to the power of a dangerous man.
The result?
Death, betrayal, bondage.
1 Kings 11 — Solomon & Foreign Women
Solomon loved women who spiritually opposed him.
The result?
His heart turned from Yahuah.
Proverbs 6:26
“For by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread.”
Flip it:
A rebellious man will reduce a woman to crumbs.
Hosea 4:13–14
Women fall into sexual chaos when men fall into spiritual rebellion.
V. THE SPIRITUAL ROOT: DESIRE OUT OF ORDER
James 1:14–15 explains it:
Unhealed desire → Enticement → Sin → Death
This is the path of:
baby daddies
domestic violence
soul ties
unprotected sex
emotionally unstable relationships
thug worship
generational curses
This is not a stereotype —
it is a spiritual pattern.
VI. THE PSYCHOLOGY: WHY THEY STAY
Attraction turns into:
trauma bonding
soul ties
emotional addiction
savior complex (“I can fix him”)
familiarity (“this feels like home”)
adrenaline dependence
low self-worth
father hunger
Proverbs 27:7
“The full soul loatheth a honeycomb;
but to the hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.”
If a woman’s soul is starving,
even bitter men taste sweet.
VII. THE SOLUTION — DELIVERANCE FROM DESIRE
The Bible never tells women:
“Stop liking thugs.”
It tells them:
Be transformed.
Renew your mind.
Let Yahuah reorder your desires. (Romans 12:2)
VIII. HOPE: YAHUAH CAN RESET ATTRACTION
The Call to Come Out
Revelation 18:4 declares:
“Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.”
Psalm 37:4
“Delight thyself in Yahuah;
and He shall give thee the desires of thine heart.”
This does not mean He gives you what you want —
It means He changes what you want.
**IX. FINAL TRUTH:
THE ATTRACTION TO THUGS IS NOT A PREFERENCE — IT’S A SPIRITUAL CONDITION**
And James 1:14–15 shows the pattern:
Unhealed desires
Enticement toward danger
Choosing sin over wisdom
Experiencing emotional, financial, and family death
But Yahuah can break the cycle.
