Marvin Sapp told ushers 'close the doors' in resurfaced video, asked for $40K in donations

The backstory:
In July 2024, Marvin Sapp preached at the 109th Pentecostal Assemblies of the World Convention in Baltimore, Maryland.
Towards the end, Sapp goes on to talk about paying $2,000 to get his ordination and licensing renewed.
"How am I going to preach up here and not lead by example," Sapp said. "Leadership leads, and they understand the cost that is involved."
After telling the congregation the story, he goes on to tell the ushers in the church to "close the doors" multiple times.
He then tells the convention there are 1,000 of them in the sanctuary and 1,000 watching online, so he challenges everyone to donate $20, in order to raise $40,000. He then challenges the preachers to donate $100, saying "It costs to sit up here."
What they're saying:
Sapp posted a response on his Facebook page stating, in part:
"Some have taken issue with a particular moment when I instructed the ushers, rather firmly, to close the doors during the offering. To those unfamiliar with the church context or who may not regularly attend worship gatherings this has been misinterpreted as holding people hostage as well as offensive. That was never my intent.
The truth is, when finances are being received in any worship gathering, it is one of the most vulnerable and exposed times for both the finance and security teams. Movement during this sacred exchange can be distracting and, at times, even risky. My directive was not about control it was about creating a safe, focused, and reverent environment for those choosing to give, and for those handling the resources."
However, many people on social media are claiming Sapp held the church members hostage and say they would have left the service.
There was a time when you could feel the righteousness in a community—not because of what people said, but because of how they lived. There was an aura—a palpable atmosphere of godliness. That aura, sadly, is gone. What’s risen in its place is something dangerous, seductive, and utterly damning: the Gospel of Narcissism.
It’s time to turn up the heat—not in judgmental rage, but in holy confrontation. We must confront ourselves, especially those of us who identify as African American, with a truth we don’t want to hear: We have sold our inheritance for a bowl of celebrity soup and cultural foolishness.
The Great Decline
Once upon a time, righteousness was a badge of honor in our community. It wasn’t perfection—it was a reverence for God, a striving for holiness, a collective desire to live uprightly. But now? Now we glorify indulgence, elevate mediocrity, and flaunt rebellion as if it were virtue.
We're becoming lazy, self-indulgent, arrogantly entitled, obsessed with entertainment, addicted to stimulation, and proud of our dysfunction. Instead of building strong families and strong churches, we’re building our social media presence and chasing clout.
America’s spiritual prestige is nearly gone, and Black America—though once the moral and prophetic voice within the nation—is now the punchline of a global joke. No one respects a nation that mocks discipline, ridicules righteousness, and glorifies vanity.
And yet, this is where we are.
Preachers or Pimps?
We have been flooded by a generation of "jack-legged" preachers and prosperity pimps—men and women who have turned the pulpit into a stage and the Gospel into a get-rich-quick scheme. They sell fantasies of divine favor disconnected from obedience or sanctification. They preach comfort, not conviction; luxury, not repentance.
They have no power because they have no purity.
Instead of warning the wicked, as God commanded the prophet Ezekiel (see Ezekiel 3:17–21), they pacify them with sugar-coated sermons and designer theology. They refuse to tell the truth because the truth doesn’t pay as well. But God’s charge is clear: if we do not warn the wicked, their blood will be on our hands.
Where Are the Real Saints?
At age 32, I joined a Seventh Day Adventist church—not because of their powerful preaching, but because of their powerful living. The lifestyle they embraced carried the fragrance of the Spirit. Their lives preached more than their sermons ever could. They didn’t just talk about holiness—they embodied it.
Today, however, we see the opposite: slick talkers with no walk. Polished speakers with polluted souls. Preachers caught in scandal after scandal—sexual sin, financial extortion, emotional manipulation. And yet, the people keep following them. Why? Because we've fallen in love with presentation over transformation.
True religion doesn't need a microphone. You should be able to walk into someone's presence and feel the presence of God.
Addicted to the Show
Black America, in particular, is especially vulnerable to the performance of spirituality. We love smooth words. We love shiny things. We are spiritually Eve all over again—falling for the serpent’s whispers of empowerment, enlightenment, and entitlement.
Shows like Love & Hip-Hop are not just entertainment; they are spiritual propaganda. They market betrayal as empowerment, vanity as identity, and sexual promiscuity as liberation. They strip dignity and replace it with spectacle. The excessive makeup, the clownish costumes, the conflict, the shallowness—it’s not just embarrassing, it's toxic.
BITCH BETTER HAVE THE PASTORS MONEY!
But the greatest tragedy is the spirit of bitchiness—in both men and women. That spirit of petty conflict, hyper-sensitivity, vanity, and rebellion now dominates our music, media, and even our churches. It is the spirit of Jezebel. And far too many men have become emotional, self-absorbed imitators of this spirit, masquerading as masculine leaders.
These aren't men. They're shells of manhood. They're physically grown, but mentally and spiritually stunted. Narcissistic, fragile, entitled, and often violent—these are the products of hip-hop’s false religion.
Hip-Hop: A False Religion
I NEED MY $100 SO I CAN GIVE TO MY PASTOR NIGGA!
Let’s be clear—hip-hop is more than music. It is a culture, a worldview, a spiritual system. Like any religion, it shapes its followers—what they value, how they behave, what they pursue, how they think.
But this religion doesn't lead to God. It leads to destruction.
The spirit behind hip-hop culture has hijacked our youth and neutered our men. It has created a generation of Super Coons—loud, vulgar, materialistic, godless—and somehow convinced them they are revolutionary. But the world does not respect this. It laughs at it. It uses it. It exploits it. And when it’s done, it discards it.
This is not cultural empowerment. This is spiritual enslavement.
The Coming Collapse and the Opportunity for Repentance
As the U.S. economy continues its downward spiral, many of the public assistance programs that fuel the hip-hop fantasy will dry up. The party is almost over. When the lights go out and the music stops, people will have no choice but to face the consequences of their choices.
This is not the end—it’s an opportunity. A refining fire is coming.
"Behold, I have refined thee, but not with silver; I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction." —Isaiah 48:10
The false glamour of hip-hop will burn away. The Gospel of Narcissism will collapse. And those who survive the shaking will begin to hunger—not for fame, not for Gucci belts, not for YouTube followers—but for truth. For righteousness. For Yahweh.
A Call to Atonement
We are in the spiritual Day of Atonement. This is a season of self-examination, repentance, and soul-searching. This is the time when the fate of souls is being sealed—before Christ returns.
“He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still...” —Revelation 22:11
This is not the time for cooning and clowning. This is not the time for selfies and spotlight addiction. This is the time to turn away from counterfeit gospels and return to the Ancient of Days.
Doomed!!?
Jeremiah 8:19 Behold the voice of the cry of the daughter of my people because of them that dwell in a far country: Is not the LORD in Zion? is not her king in her? Why have they provoked me to anger with their graven images, and with strange vanities?
Jeremiah 8:20 The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved.
Jeremiah 8:21 For the hurt of the daughter of my people am I hurt; I am black; astonishment hath taken hold on me.
Jeremiah 8:22 Is there no balm in Gilead; is there no physician there? why then is not the health of the daughter of my people recovered?
If one looks at the black condition with the eye of flesh, one has to conclude that we have become a people forsaken. We still attend and fill up the churches, we still give lip service to God, but in our spirit, in our core we live for SELF. We serve our flesh, and we DON’T have faith in THE MOST HIGH. Our plight is sad and depressing in the eyes of the universe. WE MUST CRY OUT TO YAH, AND HIS SON YAHUSHA. THERE IS NO OTHER WAY FOR US TO BE SAVED.
Conclusion: Let Go or Be Left Behind
The Gospel of Narcissism teaches that you are the center of the universe, that your happiness is God’s priority, and that your enemies will be crushed for your sake. But this gospel is a lie.
The real Gospel calls us to die to ourselves, to carry our cross, to follow Christ into suffering, obedience, and ultimately—resurrection.
Repent, lest you die.
The warning has been given. The blood is now off my hands.
Shalom.
